Discover Swipe Deck Review

Most "swipe" interfaces in movie apps are gimmicks. QP's Discover deck is the rare exception — every swipe sharpens your taste profile, and every card explains itself.

Verdict

The fastest way to build a taste profile in any movie app. Also the closest thing to a meditative scroll experience that doesn't waste your attention.

What's great

  • Cards are personalized from day one (no cold-start dead zone)
  • Genre / language / actor diversity guarantees prevent same-five-Marvel-films forever
  • Era diversity ensures pre-2020 classics resurface alongside new releases
  • Streaming providers visible on every card
  • Reasons explain why this card landed in your deck
  • Swipes also feed Mood and Watchlist — one signal, three benefits

What's still rough

  • "Too long" dismiss used to silently bias against long runtimes (fixed 2026)
  • Heavy-user pools can collapse to brand-new releases on day-300+ of usage
  • No undo-undo (one-tap undo is there, but not a second one)

How the deck is built

Every night QP's batch pipeline pre-computes a personalized slate per user with seven diversity passes (genre, language, actor, TV ratio, era, streaming service, recency). At request time it prunes anything you've already interacted with and re-ranks by current behavioral signals. By the time you see a card, six different systems have agreed it belongs in your deck.

Score: 9.1 / 10

The feature that builds your taste profile fastest. And the closest thing to a calming infinite scroll you'll find in a movie app.
